Wetlands
Creating Value, Protecting Habitat

Wetlands are areas where water covers the soil, or is present either at or near the surface of the soil all year or for varying periods of time during the year. These wetland areas are valuable natural resources to both the species living there and to land owners. Conserving, restoring, or enhancing wetlands can result in a valuable source of income to land owners, private institutions, developers, and environmental groups. In addition, the presence of functional wetlands can provide flood protection and shoreline erosion protection. However, working within wetland areas requires permits from various jurisdictions, including the US Army Corps of Engineers.

BB&J offers the services and expertise needed to comply with these permitting requirements. Our services conserve, restore, create, and preserve wetlands for use and enjoyment by future generations.

Experience and Diversity
BB&J has helped clients with complex wetlands projects nationwide, including in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Midwest and Pacific regions. BB&J’s knowledgeable staff has conducted wetland permitting for national home builders, commercial contractors, utility contractors, departments of transportation, and government agencies. BB&J has successfully negotiated on-site mitigation and mitigation banking instruments in multiple US Army Corps of Engineers jurisdictions while retaining responsible environmental stewardship. When needed, BB&J has coordinated client interests regarding restoration efforts with the interests of local environmental groups and non-government organizations.

BB&J’s staff and Alliance members have performed wetland assessments, designed wetland habitats, and performed natural resource surveys nationwide. BB&J has also assisted clients with setting up wetland mitigation banks.
