These wetland areas are valuable natural resources to both the species living there and to land owners. Conserving, restoring, or enhancing wetlands can result in a valuable source of income to land owners, private institutions, developers, and environmental groups. In addition, the presence of functional wetlands can provide flood protection and shoreline erosion protection. However, working within wetland areas requires permits from various jurisdictions, including the US Army Corps of Engineers.
