Result

BBJ Group expertly analyzed and delineated wood tar contamination at two sites within the Allegheny National Forest and delivered a comprehensive EE/CA to guide effective remediation planning.

Project Overview

BBJ Group conducted a Site Inspection and remediation planning project for the U.S. Forest Service at the McKinley and Nansen Tar Sites in the Allegheny National Forest. The project focused on historical wood tar contamination from past operations. BBJ Group performed subsurface investigations, utilizing hand augers and GPS mapping to delineate the extent of contamination. Our team developed 3D models to estimate wood tar volumes accurately, providing necessary data for remediation planning. Following this, BBJ Group was awarded a follow-up contract to complete an Engineering Evaluation and Cost Analysis (EE/CA). The EE/CA contract included developing a conceptual site model, streamlined risk evaluation, Community Involvement Plan, evaluation of removal action objectives, and a thorough analysis of removal alternatives and associated costs.
