Mitigating Contaminant Risks, Protecting Futures

BBJ Group, LLC is a specialty environmental  science and engineering consultancy with a 25-year record of service to local, regional and global clients. From effective real estate and transaction support to environmental health and safety compliance and from site assessment to contaminant risk mitigation, our team of experts and trained staff work with clients to assess, protect, redevelop, reuse, and otherwise manage the environmental and contaminant matters of sites from the conventional to the complex. Our holistic approach centers on helping to reduce current and future risk and liabilities by developing an understanding of our clients’ goals and concerns and to be mindful of long-term obligations and expenditures.

Over the last decade, the Poly- and perfluorinated chemicals, or PFAS, have been gaining increased attention from environmental regulators and stakeholder communities as environmental testing has identified the presence of these manmade chemicals in environmental media well beyond the points of manufacturing and use.  Originally, the focus of these concerns had been the presence of PFAS identified at primary producers of PFAS, and the DoD facilities, airports and fire training areas where AFFF has been used.  However, there is a significant range of applications in commercial and consumer products that we continue to discover - fluoropolymers have applications in waterproofing and protective coatings of clothes, furniture, and also as constituents of floor polish, adhesives, fire retardant foam, and insulation of electrical wire. PFAS have also found in food containers, personal care products, dish detergents and other cleaning products.

BBJ senior practitioners have been assisting clients over the last decade with understanding the potential presence of PFAS chemistry in former and current industrial and commercial operations, the nature and extent of these compounds in environmental media, and assessing the potential business risks.   Our experience span a range of services from due diligence and compliance, to forensic analysis, site assessment and site remediation, and litigation support.
