BBJ Group completed an investigation and cleanup project at a shooting range within Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in Columbia, North Carolina, focused on removing lead contamination and restoring the natural berm. The team assessed the site, collected soil samples, and used field tools and mapping techniques to identify contaminated areas. After analyzing the results, BBJ Group developed a tailored cleanup plan for removing and treating the impacted soil. From November 2024 to February 2025, the team removed 48 tons of contaminated soil, used in-situ stabilization to render the waste non-hazardous, and transported it to an approved facility. Once cleanup was complete, the site was reshaped, planted with native vegetation, and fitted with Bullet BunkersTM to reduce future contamination from range use. The project was completed on schedule, meeting applicable regulatory requirements, and received final approval from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service with no revisions requested.
