BBJ Group Welcomes Environmental Engineering Veteran Doug Bablitch, PE, as Principal Engineer

CHICAGO, IL — BBJ Group, a leading environmental consulting and engineering firm, is pleased to announce that Douglas Bablitch, PE, has joined the firm as a Principal Engineer in our San Rafael, CA office. With over 25 years of experience in civil engineering, environmental remediation, and water resource management, Doug brings a wealth of expertise and innovative leadership to the BBJ Group team.
Doug’s distinguished career spans the private, commercial, industrial, and public sectors, delivering groundbreaking solutions for complex environmental challenges across 18 states and internationally. His notable contributions include designing and implementing the first full-scale permeable reactive barrier (PRB) for in-situ treatment of radioactive strontium in groundwater, as well as leading major remediation projects featuring thermally enhanced recovery systems and permeable paving technologies.

Previously, Doug served as Principal Engineer at WSP E&IS (formerly Wood, Amec Foster Wheeler, Geomatrix), where he managed strategic accounts for Fortune 500 companies and led multidisciplinary teams on complex remediation projects. His portfolio includes developing and executing closure strategies, designing large-scale groundwater treatment systems, soil vapor and indoor air mitigation solutions, and pioneering remedial strategies for chlorinated solvents, PFAS, petroleum hydrocarbons, and radionuclides.
Doug's dedication to innovation extends to his humanitarian work, where he designed critical water and sanitation infrastructure for rural communities in Sri Lanka following the 2004 tsunami. His initiatives provided safe drinking water and shelter for hundreds of displaced families, highlighting his commitment to making a global impact.
Doug holds a Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and is a licensed Professional Engineer in California and Washington. Doug’s work has been widely published, including contributions to ASME's International Conference on Environmental Remediation and The Military Engineer.
